Well deserved trip to Samye Ling

Me and my partner are just about to set off on a trip to one of my favourite places in the world … Samye Ling Buddhist Monastery in Scotland.

I have never been with anyone else. This will be a different trip to the last time I went back in 2012.

Back then I needed to be away from everything and everyone to recentre and find myself. Now I know that sounds pretentious and hippy-dippy but it’s true. I was going through an awful time and needed to just figure out my own head and where I was in my life back then.

To some degree it worked. I was definitely calmer that I was before I went. I definitely knew where i needed to go next and I felt a sense of purpose like never before. Then only problem was; I wanted and needed a less stressful life. So that I could get a grip on the monkeys in my head.

Before visiting Samye Ling, I was in a stressful job living my life at one million miles an hour. I was earning lots of money, travelling, buying nice clothes, always thinking about my next big purchase and thinking of how to make more and more money.

I didn’t quite realise how unhappy I really was and how, all those things, we masking how ill I really was.

All I can say is, a trip to the Scottish hills visiting a Buddhist retreat where there is no phone signal, no technology, no person you know and no pressures definitely gives you a different perspective on being human and being alive.

You can probably tell that I’m so excited to be going there again and even more excited to be sharing that experience with the special person in my life.

I’ll update my blog with a trip update next week.

Have an awesome weekend Doodle Peeps.
